Digitec Galaxus passes €1 billion mark

2020-01-19 18:10:00

Digitec Galaxus has generated over 1 billion francs in sales through its online shops. The exact amount was 1.146 billion francs, which corresponds to 1.06 billion euros. This is an increase of 16 percent compared to the situation one year before.

The online sales generated by the popular online department store was achieved in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. CEO Florian Teuteberg is happy with the annual result, which he says is great. “In early December, for the first time in its history, the company achieved more than one billion in sales in one calendar year.”

Record sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as well as strong sales during the Christmas season, contributed to this milestone. But both online stores, Digitec.ch and Galaxus.ch, have shown good growth numbers in the past year.

Digitec remains electronics market leader

Digitec Galaxus explains that although the electronics market is declining, its electronics shop Digitec managed to further increase its sales. And it’s also the group’s stronger brand (in terms of revenue), although online department store Galaxus grew more in percentage and absolute terms.

All in all, it was a pretty good year for Digitec Galaxus, which has been selling Migros’ own-label products since January last year. Furthermore, Digitec launched its own mobile subscription service and founded a marketing agency. The company also opened its eleventh store.

Galaxus Germany

What also went well last year, was Galaxus Germany. Galaxus.de launched in November 2018 with electronics products, but it has now graduated from Beta and also sells home and kitchen articles and toys. The product range has increased from 50,000 to over 180,000 products. The German online store now generates over 1 million euros in sales per month.

Doubling logistics capacity

For this year, the Swiss company wants to focus on doubling its logistics capacity. At the end of April, Digitec Galaxus will be opening a new, fully automated warehouse in Aargau, near Zurich. But the company will also expand the incoming goods department and the packing line.

“The warehouse expansion will more than double our capacities in the small parts sector”, CEO Teuteberg explains. “In the future, up to 90,000 parcels can be sent from the Wohlen site every day. This will enable us to continue delivering to our customers on time despite increasing order volumes.”
